FAQ’S

Can we meet you before the wedding?

Absolutely! We always like to catch up for a coffee or Zoom with our couples before the day.

Do you have backup equipment?

We own 8x Nikon camera bodies and 3x Sony A7S II - Erin will always carry a spare camera body and plenty of batteries & memory cards to any shoot!

How does payment work?

We ask for a non-refundable 25% deposit to confirm your booking and full payment is due 4 weeks before your wedding. Acorn Studio is a New Zealand based, GST registered business.

How long will it take to get our photos?

Good things take time! We allow 6-8 weeks for final delivery of the photos and finished video highlights reels.

Do you offer albums & prints?

Absolutely - we love to see our photos in print - it is such an honour. Come see our Acorn Albums and photography prints.

ACORN ALBUMS

Will we get a sneak peek?

Absolutely! Erin will send through a sneak peek with 10-20 images within a week of your wedding.

Do you back up our images? What if a card corrupts?

We use the best memory cards available (Sandisk Extreme Pro SD cards and Sony G series XQD cards). Erin’s Nikon D850 saves a RAW copy of every photo on both an SD card and XQD card so there is an instant backup, even if a card corrupts.

After every shoot, we back all of our photo files onto an 8-Bay Synology NAS filled to the brim with 8x 10 Terrabyte WD Red HDD’s. This is a very expensive but important system with redundancy built in - if one of the hard drives fail, your data will be safe.

Once we have delivered the final photos, we strongly recommend that you make several copies (both online and offline) to keep them safe so that you can treasure them forever.

What if there is bad weather?

We love to embrace all the elements - the rain, the wind, and the sun. These can make for really dynamic photos and add to the unique experience of the whole day. But we are not completely crazy!! So, if there is a hurricane predicted to come through at the planned time of the shoot - we will absolutely work with our couples to find another time that suits us all.

What equipment do you use?

Erin photographs all of her work on her three Nikon D850 camera bodies. Her favourite lenses are her 35mm, 50mm and 85mm and she LOVES her Ikelite underwater housing for water shoots. She also has 24mm, 105mm (macro), 14-24mm, 16mm (fisheye), 135mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm and a Petzval 85mm.

What is the best time for photos during the day?

This is a great question - and what the weather does on the day will change the answer to this.

If it is super sunny and bright - then the middle of the day can be a little trickier to shoot, and we may look at shooting somewhere which isn’t as exposed to the full light of the sun.

But the best time of day to shoot - this would definitely be golden hour and twilight at the end of the day - when the sun is going down and creates the most amazing golden hue in the sky. We like to call this light the “Magic Light” - because it makes everything and everyone look even more beautiful.

We also love a good sunrise too - and sunrise does create its own “Magic Light” as well.
